Only The-Dream could get away with writing so many about sex, and make each one a hit. His pen game has been making him a killing for the last few years. This is great pop songwriting at it’s finest.

Ace Hood Preps Third Release on Def Jam entitled ‘Mr. Hood’
Listen dude, there’s only so many shots a shitty rapper can get. I know you’re tight with Khaled and that’s why you’re putting out this album, but come on, really? Your last two albums combined sold less than 200,000 copies. GET A DAY JOB. This ‘press release’ reeks of bullshit. First of all the title of your album is “Mr. Hood.” How long did it take you to think of that one?
“I really wanted to step outside the box with this whole Mr. Hood situation”….. Right
“When asked what separates this album from previous projects, Ace said that “this next album is just a total flip of how I have been doing things.”….. Please
But wait, it gets better. He continues, “Mr. Hood is just more exquisite. It’s an upgrade from everything else I have been doing. Mr. Hood meaning I’ve been drinking finer wine, I am drinking more expensive drinks, I been getting more expensive jewelry, I’m starting to shine a lot more. I overview the beaches, we suit and tying every now and again.”
So despite your best efforts to convince us that you failed third grade grammar, what you’re basically saying is that all the stuff you said on your first two albums never happened, which we already knew, but that this go-around you’re really living what you’re rapping about, which you aren’t. If you’re selling less than 100,000 copies an album you aren’t making shit. You may have gotten an upgrade in your chain to cubic zirconia, you may now be drinking Sutter Home instead of store brand wine, and you might have even purchased a suit from Nordstrom rack instead of TJ MAXX. The bottom line is you are not shining, and you are not living “more exquisite[ly].” So do yourself and hip-hop a favor and don’t try to put out this album, because we already know it’s going to be trash.

You absolutely ruined this song. The second you heard Trey Songz’s part, you should have excused yourself from the room. Do your career and music in general a favor, make a few calls, and get your part taken off, cause this ain’t gonna cut it. SERIOUSLY, listen to the first hook, and then tell me that as soon as Joe’s second verse starts, he doesn’t immediately kill the vibe. You haven’t had a hit since lean back, and you’re lucky that Slow Down record has a hot beat and a feature from Jeezy.
Trey Songz: You did your thing, the hook is fire, now please do a remix with somebody, anybody not named Fat Joe.

Lucky for me this JUST leaked after I got my first post up, which gives me a perfect first song to talk about.
The song, sampling the late Aaliyah, is produced by Drake’s go to man for R&B, Noah “40” Shebib. What makes this song most interesting, I think, is that this could have easily been one of Drake’s songs for the ladies on his forthcoming Thank Me Later, BUT, he instead chooses to rap about what seems to be a break-up that he has gone through. His words are vulnerable but his delivery is confident, a contrast that is surely one of Drake’s best tools as an artist. Jeezy gives the song some swagger when the hook drops in, and then delivers one of his most personal verses ever.
“So welcome to my life, no two day’s the same/ [I’d] Like for y’all to meet the love of my life, her name’s the game”
It’s rare to hear Jeezy rap about anything but the trap, he raps about drugs better than almost anyone else so I don’t complain, so hearing this song is a welcome departure from that style. So good job Drake on pushing your side artist to come with a new flow, let’s hope you did the same on that Jay-Z track…
The song is a bit short, each artist lends one verse to the song, and it would have been nice to hear Drake’s story wrapped up (although some are saying this version is incomplete, so hopefully Drizzy will have more to say on the album). Still, it sounds like Thank Me Later will easily be one of the year’s best. June 15th can’t come soon enough.

I decided to start this blog after noticing a lack in rap blogs that don’t just post new music, but that review and critique the various aspects of Hip-Hop culture.
Hip-Hop artists tend to be quite colorful characters (see below), so making fun of their antics can become quite easy, and hilarious.

This blog is intended to be a supplement to sites like Nah Right and Rap Radar, and I will often link to the news stories that I reference in my posts/rants/thoughts, whatever you want to call them.
The opinions that I post are of my own creation, all other content (photos, videos, music etc.) I claim no rights to unless I note otherwise.
A little about myself, I am in between my sophomore and junior years as an NYU student, and I am an intern for the Island Def Jam A&R department.
